Education and Experience
I earned a Masters of Social Work degree, with a focus on interpersonal practice, from Wayne State University where I worked at an outpatient substance use treatment facility, facilitating group and individual therapy sessions. There, I helped people with their recovery journeys to foster peer support networks, improve their interpersonal relationships, and develop emotional regulation skills. I also provided education on distress tolerance skills and mindfulness techniques to ease emotional and substance-related triggers.
I also have experience working at a disability justice organization that advocates for the dismantling of systemic barriers to access, resources, and inclusion faced by people with disabilities.
Therapeutic Style and Specialty Areas
The two primary therapeutic modalities I utilize in my practice are CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) and DBT (dialectical behavioral therapy). Aside from simply applying these evidence based practices, I pride myself on taking a collaborative approach, recognizing that my clients are the true experts on their lived experiences. I enjoy educating my clients through use of visual aides and hands on, dynamic learning.
My goal is to actively listen with genuine curiosity, develop an empathetic understanding of their experiences, and support in problem- solving and managing behaviors, emotions, and life events. Together, we will develop goals and a plan to achieve them that is reflective of their strengths and comfort.
I work with all gender identities, ages 21+. The following are some of my areas of specialization: anxiety, depression, couples therapy, relationship challenges, grief and loss, life transitions, substance use (alcohol, drugs, gambling), LGBTQ+.
I look forward to meeting you and collaborating on your therapeutic goals.
